Romans 15:22-33

SUMMARY: The Apostle Paul informs them of his desire and plans to visit them in Rome and requests their prayer for his upcoming trip to Jerusalem and then his journey to see them on his way to Spain.
  I.  The Apostle’s Plans VERSES 15:22-29
A.  The Past Hindrance: For this reason I have often been prevented from coming to you; (22)
B.  The Future Plans:
1.  His Circumstances:
a.  His Ministry: but now, with no further place for me in these regions, (23a)
b.  His Desire: and since I have had for many years a longing to come to you whenever I go to Spain (23b-24a)
2.  His Hopes:
a.  First: —for I hope to see you in passing, (24b)
b.  Second: and to be helped on my way there by you, (24c)
c.  Third: when I have first enjoyed your company for a while— (24d)
C.  The Present Plans:
1.  The Statement: but now, I am going to Jerusalem serving the saints. (25)
2.  The Explanation:
a.  The Contribution: For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem. (26)
b.  The Attitude: Yes, they were pleased to do so, (27a)
c.  The Debt:
(1)  The Declaration: and they are indebted to them. (27b)
(2)  The Explanation:
(a)  If: For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual things, (27c)
(b)  Then: they are indebted to minister to them also in material things. (27d)
D.  The Summary:
1.  The Intentions:
a.  Initially:
(1)  First: Therefore, when I have finished this, (28a)
(2)  Second: and have put my seal on this fruit of theirs, (28b)
b.  Secondly: I will go on by way of you to Spain. (28c)
2.  The Conviction: I know that when I come to you, I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ. (29)
 
 II.  The Apostle’s Request VERSES 15:30-33
A.  The General Request:
1.  The Appeal: Now I urge you, brethren, (30a)
2.  The Basis:
a.  First: by our Lord Jesus Christ (30b)
b.  Second: and by the love of the Spirit, (30c)
3.  The Request: to strive together with me in your prayers to God for me, (30d)
B.  The Specific Items:
1.  First: that I may be rescued from those who are disobedient in Judea, (31a)
2.  Second: and that my service for Jerusalem may prove acceptable to the saints; (31b)
3.  Third: so that I may come to you in joy by the will of God (32a)
4.  Fourth: and find refreshing rest in your company. (32b)
C.  The Blessing: Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen. (33)
